Final Report for PCORI Project is Published
It has been noted that patients from racial/ethnic minority groups in the United States report negative experiences with health care more often than non-Hispanic white patients. Doctors might not realize how these experiences might impact the views of their patients, and therefore might not be able to provide the most appropriate care for their patients.
Previous research showed that white patients often received better diabetes and mental health care than non-white patients. Based on this information, the research team chose to focus the study on type 2 diabetes and depression patients. The survey that the research team has created for doctors to ask patients about their past experiences with care and treatment preferences to plan treatment with their patients may therefore help type 2 diabetes and depression patients from racial/ethnic minority groups get the health care that they need.
